If the name “Baru Cormorant” sounds familiar, it’s because the seeds of this amazing novel were in Seth’s first published short story, “The Traitor Baru Cormorant, Her Field-General, and Their Wounds,” which appeared in Beneath Ceaseless Skies in December 2011. (Note: if you want to read the novel completely unspoiled, skip the short story for now.)
